Like me, you may have first seen this band on Muchmusic's show Discovered, which aired back in the summer of 2011. Since then, [Toronto, Ontario's] Brighter Brightest have been taking over their local music scene.
Childhood friends, Derek Hoffman (vocals / guitar), Kyle Topping (guitar), Alex Westgate (bass / backing vocals) and Ryan Mansbridge (drums), started the band back in mid 2008. And, "together, they have crafted a timeless, yet relevant take on pop/rock rooted in the punk/rock scene".
Vocalist Derek Hoffman states that, "Our relationship with one another is really that of four brothers, as opposed to band mates or friends. We all share the same struggles and triumphs and, even though we are all so busy outside of the band, every time we come together we can pick right back up where we left off.".
Brighter Brightest were brave enough to let a Muchmusic camera crew follow them around for close to six months gathering footage for their newest television series, Discovered. The series of episodes followed the band as they recorded their full length album in New Jersey, alongside an incredible producer known as Machine. As well, it showed the ups and downs of band life and the effort and talent it truly takes to make it.
Nine months after they first started recording, their full length album, titled Right For Me, was released. Available on August 9th 2011, it sure hit the right note with fans. It received nothing but five star reviews on iTunes with people saying "buy it" and "this band will be around for a long time".
On the band's Facebook page Derek [once again] states, "Going to New Jersey was definitely an amazing experience. As the record came together to be what it is now, it was a pretty great feeling.". He also added that, "Right For Me is about doing what you love and what is right for you, regardless of what others think. Live your life for yourself, do what you love and love what you do.".
The first single off the album, the song Everyday, was released, alongside an official music video, in July of 2011. And, having [already] reached over forty thousand views on Youtube, it is obvious fans love what they hear.
So, be sure to check out Brighter Brightest as they are currently on tour with Ten Second Epic, and others, across parts of Canada. But, first, check out the interview I did with the band's lead vocalist, Derek Hoffman, on March 31st 2012 in Waterloo, Ontario.
