It is January 26th 2014 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
"Born and raised in Canning, Nova Scotia, twenty one year old singer/songwriter Laura Roy has been making big waves in the local Halifax music scene. Recently voted Best R&B Artist 2013 by the Coast, Laura has been quickly turning heads all over the province with her captivating stage presence and soulful, powerhouse vocals."
In 2009 Laura Roy started her artist Facebook page. And, well, ever since then, fans just cannot get enough of her incredible vocals, not to mention her unbelievable songwriting skills as well.
"Upon graduating at the top of her class in the Music Arts program at NSCC Waterfront in 2012, Laura has been paving a strong pathway to a career in music. Not shy of pushing her songwriting/vocal abilities, she has made a big name for herself in the Halifax hip hop scene working and collaborating with artists such as; Classified, Quake Matthews and Cam Smith. Melding some of her favourite genres of music: R&B, blues, pop and folk, Laura produces a unique sound with all of her original music."
Laura's music certainly crosses R&B, blues, pop and folk. And, with every song she creates, and every genre found within it, it just works. Plus, with strong influences such as Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Dixie Chicks, among others, it is no wonder. So, her unbelievable song, called Let It Fall, is earning this week's 'Song of the Week' spot.
Let It Fall, which was released to iTunes on March 29th 2013, features the voice of Quake Matthews, a talented rap/hip hop artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia. And, together with Laura Roy's astonishing talent, and Quake's feature, well, you are instantly drawn in.
Another great thing with Laura is that she is always hard at work on new music. It seems every few weeks she is posting about a new song on her Facebook page, always keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
So, if you have yet to discover this insanely talented young woman from Nova Scotia, definitely check out her music and releases right away. There is no doubt she will continue to release superb music and I am stoked to hear what is next. And, she has certainly earned this week's 'Song of the Week' spot because of that.
