It is July 7th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
The song earning this week's 'Song of the Week' featured spot is one written by two very talented sisters, [originally] from Calhoun, Georgia.
If you follow the folk/rock musical genre at all, you are probably pretty familiar with the band Larkin Poe. The group consists of [sisters] Rebecca Lovell (vocals / guitar / mandolin) and Megan Lovell (harmony vocals / lap steel / dobro), alongside their band members Robby Handley (bass / keys / backing vocals) and Marlon Patton (drums).
Rebecca and Megan Lovell officially began in the music industry, together with their older sister Jessica, in 2004 as their first group titled Lovell Sisters. And, the three of them were together until late 2009 when Jessica became engaged and was preparing for college, causing the three of them to 'disband'. But, only a few months later, Rebecca and Megan joined back together, created Larkin Poe, named after their great-great-great-grandfather, and set out back into the music industry.
Immediately they were working on EPs and playing events. It did not take long for them to establish a fan base all around the world, that is [still] steadily growing every day. And, alongside their previous four EPs, these two [very] talented sisters released yet another incredible EP on April 10th 2012. Titled, Thick As Thieves, the EP encloses seven beautiful tunes, one of which, titled Celebrate, being this week's 'Song of the Week'.
Each song on the EP is definitely catchy and Celebrate is one of those songs that instantly stuck in my head after hearing it for the first time. Plus, the Lovell sisters are capable of producing some of the most relatable, inspirational and just plain beautiful lyrics I have ever heard.
Although I have yet to be able to sit in the audience of a Larkin Poe event, their Facebook biography definitely has me wanting to get to the next event I can, saying, "When you attend a Larkin Poe concert, it is impossible not to see and hear that these sisters have soul and musical prowess well beyond their years. At 22 and 24 respectively, Rebecca and Megan Lovell are charismatic performers, experienced songwriters and accomplished musicians. Featuring tight vocal harmonies and dizzying instrumental riffs, the music of Larkin Poe ranges from folk/rock to acoustic R&B, from grooving jam band to delicate singer/songwriter - Larkin Poe is versatile, entertaining and totally authentic in all that they do." And, with what this sister duo has shown so far, I am truly excited to continue to follow their amazing careers.
Celebrate, has definitely earned this week's 'Song of the Week' spot.
If you have not been able to catch Larkin Poe live just yet, definitely check out this live version of this week's featured 'Song of the Week', Celebrate, videoed by a fan in late 2011, here:
See you next Sunday for another addition to our 'Song of the Week' list. But, until that time comes, check out Larkin Poe and discover the [pure] talent these two Lovell sisters truly have.
