It is June 23rd 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
Portland, Oregon is where the band taking this week's 'Song of the Week' spot call home.
Icarus The Owl, created by Joey Rubenstein (vocals / guitar), Aj Stacher (guitar), Zach McLean (bass) and Rob Bernknopf (drums), know just what it takes to get recognized in the music industry. And, since forming in mid 2009, this alternative rock band has been showing fans what they are capable of.
It all started on May 28th 2009 when these four young men released their first full length album, titled The Spotless Mind. The album is complete with fourteen tracks and was followed two years later by their EP, titled Qualia, which was put out on February 1st 2011.
Their first two releases were both phenomenal, attracting fans regularly. But, when Icarus The Owl dropped their third release, an album titled Love Always, Leviathan, on June 21st 2012, fans went nuts.
Love Always, Leviathan portrays a unique and very catchy alternative rock edge. As well, paired with Joey Rubenstein's perfect vocals, and the band's overall addicting sound, the album could not be any better. So, the title track, Love Always, Leviathan, is getting this week's 'Song of the Week' spot.
Another point I love about this band is how humble they seem to be. On the band's Facebook page they have a quote stated "words we live by", originally by Charles Bukowski, which reads, "If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, jobs. And. maybe your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery, isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance. Of how much you really want to do it. And you'll do it, despite rejection in the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods. And the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is."
So, Icarus The Owl have undoubtedly been showing their fans, all around the world, what they are able to produce. As I have said, their catchy music, combined with their unforgettable vocals and overall style is something that will grab you instantly. And, they most definitely deserve this week's 'Song of the Week' spot because of it.
