lt is May 5th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
From a city not so far away, Burlington, Ontario that is, this week's featured band have been impacting the music scene, literally all around the world, for quite some time now.
Although the band had success prior to 2012, it was ultimately their [famous] Youtube cover of Gotye's hit tune, Somebody That I Used To Know, where the entire band played on a single acoustic guitar, that made Walk Off The Earth's success literally blow up, instantly.
After Walk Off The Earth released their cover of Gotye's tune in early 2012, fans went nuts. The video earned just under one hundred and thirty million, yes million, views on their Youtube Channel is less than four months. On top of that, the video was trending everywhere, as well as being posted on every social media website to date.
So, who are Walk Off The Earth exactly? The Burlington, Ontario band is comprised of Sarah Blackwood (vocals / guitar / ukulele), Ryan Marshall (guitar / vocals), Gianni Luminati (bass / guitar / vocals), Mike Taylor (keyboard / vocals) and Joel Cassady (drums / vocals). The band has been known for their phenomenal, and I mean phenomenal, Youtube covers, as well as their original tunes. The five have covered songs like Someone Like You by Adele, Payphone by Maroon 5 and many, many more. And, together, all of their covers, as well as their original tunes, have earned them well over three hundred million views on Youtube and just over seven hundred thousand 'likes' on Facebook. So, I believe this band definitely deserves this week's 'Song of the Week' spot.
Not only does each member of the band [literally] ooze with talent, but these guys have been an inspiration to artists and bands all over the world. Although the band is [now] signed with Columbia Records, before their deal Walk Off The Earth proved to artists and bands, all around the world, that if you work hard you can earn your success on your own. Prior to their record deal, these five earned their fans and views without the help of record labels, booking agents or management and they even used low budget music videos they would create.
On March 19th 2013, Walk Off The Earth released their CD, titled R.E.V.O., which stands for the band's motto, Realize Every Victory Outright. The record [not only] houses their famous cover of Somebody That I Used To Know, but, it also holds this week's 'Song of the Week', Red Hands.
So, I would say to check out Walk Off The Earth, and especially check out R.E.V.O., but, I feel like most people already know this band. However, if you are the very, very few who have yet to obsess over this talented Ontario band, please check out Walk Off The Earth and prepare to be blown away.
To top off the [already] amazing song, Walk Off The Earth released an official music video for Red Hands in November of 2012. The video for this week's 'Song of the Week' can be viewed on the band's Youtube Channel, here:
See you once again next Sunday for another addition to our weekly 'Song of the Week' update. Until then, seriously check out Walk Off The Earth if you have yet to discover this talent.
