It is April 14th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
Every several months it seems Lights ends up on the official Basement Entertainment website for something she does or releases. And, well, she is back once again.
Although the track first appeared on her last full length release, Siberia, which she put out on October 4th 2011, Lights recently released her song Cactus In The Valley yet again. But, unlike the last time we heard it, this version is a little different.
Lights teamed up with the amazingly talented musician, Adam Young, best known for his project Owl City. Adam lent his [also] insanely phenomenal voice and together they released the acoustic, duet version of Cactus In The Valley. Plus, this new version will be appearing on Lights' next release, titled Siberia Acoustic.
Siberia Acoustic is set to be released on April 30th 2013. It holds ten acoustic tracks, all of which appeared on the original Siberia record. Along with the Owl City feature, Siberia Acoustic will also have appearances from Max Kerman, from Arkells, as well as the Montreal, Quebec project , Coeur De Pirate. And, because the song itself is stunning, just a hint of what the upcoming release will be, Cactus In The Valley is getting this week's 'Song of the Week' spot.
By now it seems almost silly to introduce Lights because of the success she has already had. Although she turned twenty six just three days ago, on April 11th 2013, this young woman has been dominating the music scene for a while.
She released her first full length album, titled The Listening, on September 22nd 2009. But, six months before The Listening even hit store shelves Lights snagged the 2009 Juno Award for Best New Artist Of The Year on March 29th 2009 at the Vancouver, British Columbia ceremonies.
Since then, Lights has been keeping busy. She has gone on to release two full length records, The Listening and Siberia, as well as four EPs, self-titled Lights, Acoustic, Siberia (Remixed) and iTunes Session. Furthermore, she has been busy with nine extraordinary singles and, most recently, she lent her superb vocals to the Artists Against Bullying track, True Colours. Plus, we cannot forget, this young woman even got married in amongst everything else.
So, I do not think I need to explain why Cactus In The Valley, from her upcoming Siberia Acoustic album release, is getting this week's 'Song of the Week' spot. If you know anything about Lights you know the talent she has and just what she is capable of. And, her upcoming release is one I cannot wait to add to my collection.
If you are like me and cannot wait until April 30th 2013 to hear Siberia Acoustic, you can check out the lyric video she released, alongside Adam Young, of Cactus In The Valley, this week's 'Song of the Week', here:
