It is April 7th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
The song that is being featured this week is not necessarily brand new anymore. However, it has recently been playing nonstop on my local radio station and it definitely needs to be heard even more.
The name Ellie Goulding is undoubtedly growing in popularity. Infact, this incredible twenty six year old, from Herefordshire, England, has well over two million 'likes' on Facebook and beyond one hundred and thirty eight million hits on Youtube. Yes, that is correct, over one hundred and thirty eight million hits on Youtube.
Although I had heard the name Ellie Goulding before, it was not until her song I'll Hold My Breath, which kept playing numerous times every day while I was at work, did I actually truly discover her.
Upon hitting the web and trying to find every song or video ever released by Ellie Goulding, I discovered her two [successful] full length releases. Her first, titled Lights, was released on February 26th 2010. And, Lights encases this week's 'Song of the Week', I'll Hold My Breath. As well, this indie pop master released her second record, titled Halcyon, on October 5th 2012, which has her current single, Explosions.
Ellie's first record, Lights, went on to sell over thirty six thousand copies in the first week of being released in the United Kingdom. And, by the end of 2010, Lights was the twenty sixth bestselling album in the UK, reaching sales of almost three hundred thousand copies at the time.
When Lights hit the United States and Canada the album continued to gain fans. It debuted at number one hundred and twenty nine on the Billboard 200 list. And, when it hit Canada it was number seventy six on the Canadian Albums Chart on May 12th 2011. To date, the album has sold well over one and a half million copies worldwide.
Two years after releasing Lights, Ellie Goulding put forth her latest record, Halcyon. Released on October 5th 2012, her record debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart. And, in the United States it debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 list.
So, if you seriously have not listened to Ellie Goulding you should definitely check out her music soon. Her absolutely phenomenal voice, for a lack of better words, is something that you definitely need to listen to as well. The fact that this young woman has released five EPs, two CDs, nine singles and thirteen music videos proves she knows what she is doing. And, because of that, I'll Hold My Breath, deserves this week's 'Song of the Week' spot without a doubt.
Ellie is currently on a pretty major tour that takes her to the middle of August 2013. She is touring all around the world, hitting places like Sweden and Italy, to the United States and, of course, parts of Canada, including Toronto, Ontario.
If you have not seen Ellie Goulding live yet, hopefully this video of her performing this week's 'Song of the Week' will tide you over until you do. Make sure you check out her performance of I'll Hold My Breath [live] at the 2010 iTunes Festival, here:
See you next Sunday for another brand new 'Song of the Week' to be added. In the meantime, check out Ellie Goulding and be sure to check out her upcoming tour dates to catch her in a city near you.
