It is February 17th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
The song being recognized this week is from a band I have been itching to feature for [what feels like] a long time. Their insane talent, absolutely amazing music and overall incredible live performance is the reason this band is being featured this week.
If you do not know about the Kitchener/Cambridge/Baden, Ontario based band, Lancaster, you will definitely know their name soon enough. Adam Horrocks (vocals / guitar), Andrew Prosser (guitar / backing vocals), David Vanderstoep (bass / backing vocals) and Nathan Cumber (drums) are four exceedingly talented young men. And, their song Milkshake is getting this week's 'Song of the Week' featured spot because of it.
Vocalist and guitarist Adam Horrocks began writing under the name Lancaster in as early as 2009. He then formed a complete line up and the name Lancaster was popping up around Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario on the bill of some local events. The members later parted ways to pursue school and other musical ventures, however, Adam kept the name alive and did things on his own.
In early 2012 Adam met up with [friends] Andrew Prosser and Nathan Cumber, formerly in the local band Credit Valley, and instantly they discovered their musical connection. The trio also recruited friend David Vanderstoep to fill the spot for bass. Together their varying musical influences combined to create a unique and unforgettable sound. That sound is what we now know today as Lancaster.
Adam Horrocks states, "From the very beginning we all realized that we each brought something different to the table. We were able to collectively notice that right away and we strived off that." Lancaster has a real knack for incredible harmonies, as well, and their pop/punk/emo/ambient musical feel also adds to their unforgettable sound even more.
Adam also shared the news that their acoustic EP is set to be released sometime in March 2013. He went on to add, "We are releasing our first acoustic EP in March 2013. The entire EP was recorded and produced by us and we can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been working on. We also aren't playing to a click track for the EP, all of the instruments are live off the floor." And, if you know this band March seriously cannot come soon enough...
So, I hope I have convinced you to check out Lancaster as this band is obviously going to be making a presence this year. As well, mark your calendars and keep your eyes glued to their Facebook page as we await the arrival of their EP.
Plus, be sure to check out this incredible band as they play for Basement Entertainment this coming Saturday in Waterloo, Ontario.
I seriously cannot wait to see where this extraordinary band will go.
