It is January 6th 2013 which means it is time to announce the next 'Song of the Week'.
The band getting this week's 'Song of the Week' spot is one consisting of five members, all of which have been together since the very beginning of their careers. Yes, an amazing eleven years later and this band still consists of its original members.
From Edmonton, Alberta, Ten Second Epic have been flooding the music scene with their amazing music since forming in 2002. Over the course of [now] eleven years the guys have released three albums, three EPs, nine singles and ten music videos. To top it off, they even released a DVD in 2011 documenting the making of their latest record, Better Off.
In a way I would say Ten Second Epic is a band I grew up following. In 2007, at thirteen, I remember discovering their song Suck It Up, Princess on the internet. Now, six years later and I have watched Andrew Usenik (vocals), Daniel Carriere (guitar), Craig Spelliscy (guitar), Sandy MacKinnon (bass) and Patrick Birtles (drums) evolve throughout each album. And, the track titled Young Classics, off their most recent release, Better Off, is receiving recognition this week as 'Song of the Week'.
As every artist or band releases new material it naturally grows. And, Ten Second Epic's music has definitely grown in an amazing way. Each song they put forth continually proves the extreme talent all five members express.
Almost a year ago, on April 1st 2012, I received the great honour of actually meeting Ten Second Epic, alongside The Dangerous Summer and Brighter Brightest, when they played in Waterloo, Ontario. The live performance this band creates is absolutely phenomenal and is one everyone needs to witness, not to mention they are some of the most humble guys you will meet.
So, the very first track off Better Off, Young Classics, is this week's 'Song of the Week' for a ton of reasons. Over the course of eleven years, Andrew, along with the rest of Ten Second Epic, have seriously proven their talent to the world. And, because of that, they deserve the recognition.
If you have yet to check out their highly anticipated third album, Better Off, which was released on September 20th 2011, please do. It is compiled of ten songs your ears need to hear, very soon, including this week's 'Song of the Week', Young Classics, which can be heard in the band's official music video, here:
See you next Sunday for another addition to our 'Song of the Week' feature. Over the next week, however, make sure you discover Ten Second Epic and prepare for their future, as it is one I am stoked for.
