It is October 2013 and you know what that means! It is time to add another artist or band, as voted by you, the fans, to Basement Entertainment's 'Band of the Month' list.
For the last six days we opened up the official 'Band of the Month' poll and provided you, the fans, with four bands to vote for. And, after a tremendous response of votes, the Youngstown, Ohio band, Northern Whale, took this month's featured spot, finishing with fifty two percent of the total votes.
The alternative influenced band, which consists of friends Jake Capezzuto (vocals / guitar), Brandon Fisher (guitar), Jake Stephens (bass) and Seth Donchess (drums), joined Facebook with their music in late 2010. And, [just] five months after, on April 22nd 2011, they released their first three song, self-titled EP.
The first EP immediately brought fans to these [four] young men. And, their iTunes EP page was filling up with positive, five star reviews right away, with fans writing simple compliments such as, "A good young band!".
So, when Northern Whale released their second EP, titled Sailor Of The Seven Seas, it was obvious fans were stoked. The EP was officially released to their iTunes page on April 30th 2013. And, just like their first EP, it was getting attention instantaneously.
Once again, Sailor Of The Seven Seas, got fans addicted to this band. And, among many five star reviews as simple as "This is awesome!", came one a little more extensive. One fan went on to write "Sailor Of The Seven Seas is a fantastic showcase of the best of what alternative music should be. From start to finish this EP shows a maturity that bands who have been around twice as long have not been able to capture." They even went on to add, "This is a great summer album that washes over you with a clean sonic experience that makes you hunger to see the band live. There is not one let down track on the EP. It is as solid of an effort from an up and coming band that I have seen in a very long time."
I think fans all around the world can agree that this band deserves this month's 'Band of the Month' spot, as voted by you. And, as far as any upcoming releases from this band, well, you do not have to wait [too] long. Northern Whale is expected to drop a brand new EP, titled Reckless, sometime this month.
So, whether you discovered this band from their previous releases, or are just discovering them now, like myself, you will want to keep your eyes peeled to them. Northern Whale have proven they have what it takes and are no strangers to creating some pretty incredible alternative style music. And, because of that, I know I can say we will certainly be hearing a lot more from this band in the [near] future.
While we [all] wait for the release of Reckless, why not check out Northern Whale's latest release, Sailor Of The Seven Seas, which can be heard here:
